President Trump’s administration sued four states last week for laws mandating fossil fuel companies to pay penalties for local pollution violate the Clean Air Act and the Constitution. The lawsuit aligns with an executive order signed by President Donald Trump last month.
President Trump stated in his order, “Americans are better off when the United States is energy dominant. American energy dominance is threatened when State and local governments seek to regulate energy beyond their constitutional or statutory authorities.”
Attorney General Pam Bondi stated, “These burdensome and ideologically motivated laws and lawsuits threaten American energy independence and our country’s economic and national security.”
The states the administration sued were New York, Vermont, Hawaii, and Michigan. Hawaii and Michigan have also filed lawsuits against oil companies for particularly egregious instances of pollution, and Hawaii’s attorney general,
